Jeon (Korean pancake)

It's a Korean dish.

Jeon (煎), Korean pancake, or Korean pancakes are made with oil on a pot or frying pan with a wide snout, and thinly fried food such as fish flesh, lean meat, and vegetables. They are typically made and eaten during holidays such as Lunar New Year or Chuseok.
Jeon (煎) is a formative (Yeonhwabal, 灬) with Buddha (火) under the letter Jeon (Jeon), which means 'moon' and 'jidda'. The word 'jeonya' is also derived from this Chinese character. In the old days, it was also called Jeon You (煎油魚) and Jeon Yu-hwa (煎油 flower) in the royal court. Jeonbyeong (煎餅, Senbei), a Japanese flower cake, also uses this word 'jeon', but regardless of Korean pancakes or rice cakes (餠), the meaning only works in Daebumju, which is 'moon'. On the other hand, Chinese Jeonbyeong (煎饼, Zenbing) refers to a dish made by cooking flour dough, similar to that of Korea, unlike Japanese Jeonbyeong.

In the southern part of China, meat batter is eaten by frying it like this, called 煎丸, which means that jeon (煎) here is also eaten by frying it with less oil.

In standard language, it is called 'boiled rice cake', and since the word 'boiled rice cake' also exists as a synonym, it can be analyzed as 'boiled rice +-dog', but the meaning of '-dog' is not known. Online ganada has the same form as the suffix '-dog', which means 'doing something', such as 'wing' and 'eraseous rice cake', but there is a difference in character in that 'boiled rice cake' and 'boiled rice cake' have the same meaning.
In the Southeastern dialect, it is called "jimjim" and "jimjimjim" in the Korean Standard Dictionary published by the National Institute of the Korean Language, but today only "boochim" and "jeon" are used as standard words, and "jimjim" and "jimjim" are more recognized as slang or dialect. "jimjim" is the standard language, and "jimjim" was not recognized as a standard language. In addition, the Korean Standard Dictionary explains that it is a term that encompasses all foods that are earthquake-like in oil, but in reality, it is limited to special types of dishes, and "fried food" is used as a generic term for foods that are earthquake-like in oil. Similarly, the word "油煎" is presented as a synonym for jim, but it is rarely used on a daily basis.

Similar in name, 'jimjim' or 'jimjigae' sometimes means the whole "bottled food with little soup," which is presumed to be related to stew, a word that has a similar meaning. The Standard Korean Dictionary lists both jimjim as a pancake and jimjim as a boiled food. This is also called 'jimjim jeon' in Chinese characters, but the letters are different from 'jimjim jeon' (臇), not 'dalil jeon' in Chinese characters. On the North Korean side, some forms of 'jimjim' are used, such as 'potato jimjim', which means potato pancake of potato pride.

During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was called hwajeonnori when several people gathered to make jeon.

A collection of various types of jeon is called assorted jeon.
In the Anglo-American world, it is called John, Buchimgae. It is sometimes called Korean pancake by over-translating. It doesn't match well to call jeon by the name of sweet pancake, but it is not wrong because the dish called cake is baked by kneading flour. However, if you do this, cookies are also baked by kneading flour, so cake = cookie = pancake. In other words, it is over-translation and mistranslation.

In general, the image that comes to mind when you think of a cake is the cake you eat on your birthday, so that's inevitable. In Europe, there are pancakes that can be eaten for meals, such as crepe in French cuisine, panenkuk in Dutch, and blin in Russian cuisine. Of course, these dishes are called by the proper nouns crepe, panenkuk, and blin just like jeon or pancakes, and 'cake' means 'cake'. Fortunately, in modern times, the four-pronged translations such as 'Korean ~' are viewed negatively, and when Korean food or culture is translated into English, the proper nouns are indicated as they are, and mistranslations that are treated as subclasses of something are being corrected in the same way as 'Korean ~'.
