In other words, it means "grilling of the Mac family," which is the oldest recorded dish among Korean grilled meat.

It can be seen as an ancestor of Korean grilled meat.
Goguryeo's Macjeok is a type of grilled dish closer to Neubiani or Eonyang-style bulgogi compared to the present, and in general, makjang is based instead of soy sauce.

It is not clear how to make Goguryeo's legacy because it does not remain in detail, but based on Goguryeo's natural environment and tomb murals, it is said that it was generally in the form of a 'spicy pork barrel'.

It is presumed that there has been no change in the method of cooking whole roasting, and although several livestock may have been used as an ingredient for the barley, it is believed that pigs or sheep were mainly used. This is because sheep or pigs, especially pigs raised for meat, are more likely to be the ingredients for the barley than horses or cows used as 役畜. Even considering the regional characteristics of the Manchurian region or the northern part of the Korean Peninsula where the Goguryeo people of the barley family reside, pigs rather than sheep would have been the main ingredient for the barley.

In modern times, grilled pork dishes with soybean paste seasoning and leeks or water parsley are usually called macchiks.
Macjeok can be said to be a seasoned whole-grilled dish if you look at the Han Dynasty's record of "釋" and "搜 History," which is a document from the Weijin Northern and Southern Dynasties, and has different characteristics from Chinese red-grilled 炙, which cuts meat into small pieces and stitches it with a wooden stick.

In the literature data recorded on the pulse, the origins of the pulse were recorded in various ways such as the 胡貊 (翟) and the enemy (狄/族), but these were used as the names of the race, that is, the Yijong, rather than the Han 族. Therefore, in order to obtain detailed information on the pulse, it is necessary to pay attention to the name of the food, because the name of the food generally contains the origin or information about the food.

Considering these points, Macjeok can be seen as a food of the Mac family. Regarding the Mac family, various interpretations can be made due to its origin or geographic location, but it is clear that one of the most influential tribes of the Mac family is Goguryeo people.
